Wie Grid deine Daten speichert, wie Berechnungen funktionieren und was du über die App wissen solltest.
Grid KPI Box läuft nativ auf Mac und iPad – erfordert macOS 14.0 oder iPadOS 17.0.

Datenspeicherung

Alles bleibt auf deinem Gerät

Alle Daten die du in Grid eingibst – Ablesungen, Verträge, Notizen und Anhänge – werden ausschließlich lokal auf deinem Gerät gespeichert. Die App sendet zu keinem Zeitpunkt Daten an externe Server oder Dienste.

Auf dem Mac speichert Grid im App-Datenbereich (~/Library/Application Support/), auf dem iPad im App-Sandbox-Container. Beide Orte sind durch Apples App-Sandbox vor dem Zugriff anderer Apps geschützt.

Everything stays on your device

All data you enter in Grid – readings, contracts, notes and attachments – is stored exclusively locally on your device. The app never sends data to external servers or services.

On Mac, Grid stores data in the app data directory (~/Library/Application Support/), on iPad in the app's sandbox container. Both locations are protected from access by other apps through Apple's app sandbox.

iCloud Sync (optional)

Unter Einstellungen → Speicherort → iCloud Drive kannst du iCloud Sync aktivieren. Grid speichert dann die Datendatei (grid_data.json) in deinem persönlichen iCloud-Container – zugänglich für Mac und iPad gleichzeitig.

Grid verwendet iCloud Drive (FileManager), nicht CloudKit. Es gibt kein Dashboard, keinen eigenen Server und keine externen Dienste. Alle Daten liegen ausschließlich in deiner persönlichen iCloud.

Hinweis Wenn du eine Wohnung mit aktivem iCloud-Sync löschst, wird sie auf allen synchronisierten Geräten entfernt. Empfohlen: Vorher ein Backup erstellen.

iCloud Sync (optional)

Under Settings → Storage Location → iCloud Drive you can enable iCloud Sync. Grid then stores the data file (grid_data.json) in your personal iCloud container – accessible on both Mac and iPad simultaneously.

Grid uses iCloud Drive (FileManager), not CloudKit. There is no dashboard, no proprietary server and no external services. All data resides exclusively in your personal iCloud.

Note If you delete a home with active iCloud Sync enabled, it is removed on all synced devices. Recommended: create a backup first.

Was Grid nie tut

Berechtigungen erklärt

Grid fragt beim ersten Start nach zwei optionalen Berechtigungen:

Kalender Nur zum Anlegen monatlicher Erinnerungen in deinem lokalen Kalender. Grid liest keine bestehenden Kalendereinträge. Vollständig optional – ohne diese Berechtigung funktioniert alles andere normal.
Dateizugriff Für den Import von CSV- und Backup-Dateien, die du aktiv über den Dateidialog auswählst. Dateien werden nur gelesen, nie eigenständig von der App geöffnet oder weitergegeben.
Hinweis Wenn du die App deinstallierst, bleiben deine Daten im Application Support Ordner erhalten. Willst du alles vollständig löschen, entferne diesen Ordner manuell. Empfohlen: Vorher ein Backup erstellen.

Permissions explained

Grid asks for two optional permissions on first launch:

Calendar Only to create monthly reminders in your local calendar. Grid does not read existing calendar entries. Fully optional – everything else works normally without this permission.
File Access For importing CSV and backup files that you actively select via the file dialog. Files are only read, never opened or shared independently by the app.
Note If you uninstall the app, your data in the Application Support folder is preserved. To delete everything completely, remove this folder manually. Recommended: create a backup first.

Anhänge

Du kannst Dateien an zwei Stellen in der App anhängen:

Verträge In der Vertragsübersicht hat jeder Vertrag ein Büroklammer-Icon oben rechts. Darüber lassen sich Vertragsdokumente, Rechnungen oder Schreiben direkt dem jeweiligen Vertrag zuordnen.
KPI-Kategorien In der Detailansicht einer Kategorie (z.B. Internet & Phone) gibt es rechts neben dem Notizfeld eine eigene Anhänge-Sektion mit einem „+ Attachment"-Button. So lassen sich z.B. Fotos von Zählerständen oder Belege direkt einer Kategorie zuordnen.

Anhänge werden lokal im App-Datenbereich gespeichert. Sie sind Teil des JSON-Backups und werden beim Wiederherstellen miteinbezogen.

Vorschau Bilder und PDFs werden direkt in der App vorgeschaut. Für andere Dateiformate erscheint ein Button „In Standardanwendung öffnen". Zeigt die App „Datei nicht gefunden", wurde die Originaldatei verschoben oder gelöscht – der Anhang-Eintrag bleibt erhalten, die Datei muss neu verknüpft werden.

Attachments

You can attach files in two places in the app:

Contracts In the Contracts & Prices view, each contract has a paperclip icon in the top right. Use it to attach contract documents, invoices or correspondence directly to the relevant contract.
KPI Categories In the detail view of a category (e.g. Internet & Phone), there is a dedicated Attachments section next to the notes field with an "+ Attachment" button. Use it to attach meter photos, receipts or any other file to a specific category.

Attachments are stored locally in the app data directory. They are part of the JSON backup and are included when restoring.

Preview Images and PDFs are previewed directly in the app. For other file formats, an "Open in default app" button appears. If the app shows "File not found", the original file was moved or deleted – the attachment entry is preserved but the file needs to be relinked.

Hochrechnung & KPI-Berechnungen

Trendpfeil: Was er bedeutet

Jede KPI-Karte auf der Übersichtsseite zeigt einen Pfeil mit einem Prozentwert. Dieser Wert vergleicht den Verbrauch des aktuell ausgewählten Zeitraums mit dem identischen Zeitraum des Vorjahres.

Beispiel: Zeitraum Januar 2026 ausgewählt → Vergleich mit Januar 2025. Ist kein Vorjahreswert für den Zeitraum vorhanden, wird kein Trendpfeil angezeigt.

  • Pfeil ↑ rot – Verbrauch ist gegenüber dem Vorjahreswert gestiegen
  • Pfeil ↓ grün – Verbrauch ist gesunken

Trend arrow: what it means

Each KPI card on the overview page shows an arrow with a percentage value. This value compares the consumption of the currently selected period with the identical period of the previous year.

Example: period January 2026 selected → comparison with January 2025. If no prior-year value exists for the period, no trend arrow is shown.

  • Arrow ↑ red – consumption has increased compared to the prior year value
  • Arrow ↓ green – consumption has decreased

Jahreshochrechnung: Wie Grid rechnet

Die Hochrechnung extrapoliert deinen bisherigen Jahresverbrauch auf das vollständige Jahr. Die Berechnung läuft in drei Schritten:

  • Grid ermittelt den durchschnittlichen monatlichen Verbrauch aus allen Ablesungen im laufenden Jahr
  • Dieser Durchschnitt wird mit 12 multipliziert → geschätzter Jahresgesamtverbrauch
  • Falls ein Tarif hinterlegt ist: Verbrauch × Arbeitspreis + Grundpreis × 12 = Jahreskosten
Ø Monatsverbrauch × 12 = Jahresprognose (Verbrauch)
Wenn Tarif vorhanden:
Jahresprognose × Arbeitspreis + Grundpreis × 12 = Jahreskosten
Genauigkeit Die Prognose setzt mindestens 2 Ablesungen im laufenden Jahr voraus. Sie wird präziser, je mehr Monate abgedeckt sind – mit 1–2 Einträgen ist sie ein grober Richtwert, ab 4–5 Monaten deutlich verlässlicher.

Annual forecast: how Grid calculates

The forecast extrapolates your current year consumption to the full year. The calculation runs in three steps:

  • Grid determines the average monthly consumption from all readings in the current year
  • This average is multiplied by 12 → estimated annual total consumption
  • If a tariff is stored: consumption × unit price + base price × 12 = annual costs
Avg. monthly consumption × 12 = Annual forecast (consumption)
If tariff is stored:
Annual forecast × unit price + base price × 12 = Annual costs
Accuracy The forecast requires at least 2 readings in the current year. It becomes more accurate the more months are covered – with 1–2 entries it is a rough estimate, from 4–5 months it becomes significantly more reliable.

Hochrechnung für KPI-Kategorien

Für Kategorien wie Miete, Internet, Versicherung oder Nebenkosten funktioniert die Hochrechnung anders als bei Energiezählern. Hier gibt es keinen Verbrauch der sich monatlich verändert – stattdessen verwendet Grid den letzten bekannten Betrag als Basis:

Letzter Betrag × Perioden pro Jahr = Jahresprognose
Beispiel: 55 € monatlich → 55 × 12 = 660 € Jahresprognose

Der Rhythmus der Kategorie (Monatlich, Quartalsweise, Jährlich etc.) bestimmt wie viele Perioden hochgerechnet werden. Das Forecast-Panel rechts im Diagramm zeigt zusätzlich den Vergleich zum Vorjahr als Prozentwert.

Warum letzter Betrag statt Durchschnitt? Fixkosten wie Miete oder Internet ändern sich selten – der aktuelle Betrag ist ein besserer Richtwert als der historische Durchschnitt, der vergangene (günstigere oder teurere) Perioden einschließt.

Forecast for KPI categories

For categories like rent, internet, insurance or utilities, the forecast works differently from energy meters. There is no consumption that changes month to month – instead Grid uses the last known amount as the basis:

Last amount × periods per year = Annual forecast
Example: 55 € monthly → 55 × 12 = 660 € annual forecast

The rhythm of the category (Monthly, Quarterly, Annual etc.) determines how many periods are extrapolated. The Forecast panel on the right of the chart also shows a comparison to the previous year as a percentage.

Why last amount instead of average? Fixed costs like rent or internet rarely change – the current amount is a better predictor than the historical average, which includes past (cheaper or more expensive) periods.

Warum ohne Tarif keine Kosten angezeigt werden

Ohne hinterlegten Tarif zeigt Grid ausschließlich Verbrauchswerte – keine Kostenschätzungen. Das ist bewusst so: Schätzpreise oder Bundesdurchschnittswerte würden zu Erwartungen führen, die deine tatsächliche Situation nicht widerspiegeln.

Grid rechnet nur mit Werten die du selbst hinterlegt hast. Einen Tarif hinterlegst du unter Verträge → Neuer Vertrag → Arbeitspreis / Grundpreis.

Why no costs are shown without a tariff

Without a stored tariff, Grid shows only consumption values – no cost estimates. This is intentional: estimated prices or national averages would create expectations that don't reflect your actual situation.

Grid only calculates with values you have entered yourself. Add a tariff under Contracts → New Contract → Unit price / Base price.

Backup & Datenexport

Backup als JSON-Datei

Unter Einstellungen → Backup → Exportieren speicherst du alle Daten als JSON-Datei. JSON ist ein offenes, lesbares Format – du kannst die Datei mit jedem Texteditor öffnen und prüfen.

Was das Backup enthält:

  • Alle Ablesungen für jede Wohnung (Datum, Wert, Verbrauch, Notiz)
  • Alle Vertragsdaten (Anbieter, Tarif, Laufzeit, Abschlag)
  • Wohnungsnamen, Icons und App-Einstellungen

Wiederherstellen: Einstellungen → Backup → Importieren → Datei auswählen. Achtung: Bestehende Daten werden dabei vollständig ersetzt.

Empfehlung Erstelle vor jedem App-Update manuell ein Backup. Deine Daten bleiben bei Updates zwar erhalten, aber ein externes Backup ist immer die sicherste Variante.
iCloud Sync ist kein Backup-Ersatz iCloud Sync spiegelt immer den aktuellen Stand – Löschungen inklusive. Ein manuelles Backup ist eine eingefrorene Momentaufnahme, die du jederzeit wiederherstellen kannst, egal was danach passiert ist.

Backup as JSON file

Under Settings → Backup → Export you save all your data as a JSON file. JSON is an open, readable format – you can open and inspect the file with any text editor.

What the backup contains:

  • All readings for every home (date, value, consumption, note)
  • All contract data (provider, tariff, duration, advance payment)
  • Home names, icons and app settings

Restore: Settings → Backup → Import → Select file. Note: existing data will be completely replaced.

Recommendation Create a manual backup before every app update. Your data is preserved during updates, but an external backup is always the safest option.
iCloud Sync is not a backup replacement iCloud Sync always mirrors the current state – deletions included. A manual backup is a frozen snapshot you can restore at any time, no matter what happened since.

CSV-Export

Im Verlauf-Tab jeder Energieart kannst du Ablesungen als CSV-Datei exportieren. CSV-Dateien lassen sich direkt in Excel, Numbers oder anderen Tabellenprogrammen öffnen.

Der CSV-Export enthält: Datum, Zählerstand, Verbrauch und Notiz – aufsteigend nach Datum sortiert.

Den Export findest du im Verlauf über das Export-Symbol oben rechts.

CSV Export

In the History tab for each energy type you can export readings as a CSV file. CSV files can be opened directly in Excel, Numbers or other spreadsheet applications.

The CSV export contains: date, meter reading, consumption and note – sorted by date ascending.

Find the export in History via the Export icon in the top right.

InsightEngine

Was ist die InsightEngine?

Die InsightEngine analysiert automatisch deine Verbrauchs- und Kostendaten und zeigt die wichtigsten Erkenntnisse direkt auf der Wohnungsübersicht. Bis zu drei Insights werden nach Priorität angezeigt – Grid hebt die bedeutsamsten davon hervor.

Die Analyse läuft vollständig lokal auf deinem Gerät. Es wird kein Modell, keine API und keine KI-Dienste verwendet – alle Regeln sind fest im Code implementiert.

What is the InsightEngine?

The InsightEngine automatically analyzes your consumption and cost data and shows the most important findings directly on the apartment overview. Up to three insights are shown by priority – Grid highlights the most significant ones.

The analysis runs entirely locally on your device. No model, API or AI service is used – all rules are implemented directly in the app code.

Was Grid analysiert

  • Energie: Ungewöhnlich hoher oder niedriger Verbrauch im Vergleich zum Vorjahr und zum Durchschnitt – Ausreißer werden erkannt, günstige Perioden bestätigt
  • Verträge: Ablaufende Tarife und Verträge die bald erneuert werden sollten – damit du nicht unbemerkt in höhere Preise rutschst
  • Fixkosten: Fehlende Einträge in KPI-Kategorien, unvollständige Daten oder Kategorien ohne Eintrag im laufenden Monat
  • Trends: Verbrauch steigt oder fällt über mehrere Monate – erkennbar bevor es die Jahresprognose tut
Anlaufphase Die InsightEngine braucht eine gewisse Datenmenge um verlässliche Aussagen zu machen. Mit nur 1–2 Ablesungen erscheinen Setup-Hinweise statt Vergleichsinsights – das ist normal und wird besser je mehr Monate du erfasst hast.

What Grid analyzes

  • Energy: Unusually high or low consumption compared to the prior year and average – outliers are flagged, favorable periods confirmed
  • Contracts: Expiring tariffs and contracts that should be renewed soon – so you don't drift into higher prices unnoticed
  • Fixed costs: Missing entries in KPI categories, incomplete data or categories with no entry in the current month
  • Trends: Consumption rising or falling over several months – detectable before the annual forecast reflects it
Warm-up phase The InsightEngine needs a certain amount of data to make reliable statements. With only 1–2 readings, setup hints appear instead of comparison insights – this is normal and improves the more months you have recorded.

Wo erscheinen die Insights?

Auf der Wohnungsübersicht (erster Bildschirm nach dem Start) – direkt unter der Jahreskosten-Übersicht. Grid zeigt maximal drei Insights gleichzeitig, die wichtigsten zuerst.

Jeder Insight hat einen optionalen Aktionsbutton, der direkt zur relevanten Ansicht navigiert – z.B. zur Verlaufsübersicht bei einem Verbrauchsausreißer oder zur Vertragsansicht bei einem ablaufenden Tarif.

Where do insights appear?

On the apartment overview (first screen after launch) – directly below the annual cost summary. Grid shows a maximum of three insights at once, the most important ones first.

Each insight has an optional action button that navigates directly to the relevant view – for example to the history overview for a consumption outlier or to the contracts view for an expiring tariff.

Kredit-Modul

Kredite und Raten erfassen

Unter Finanzen → Kredite in der Seitenleiste erfasst du Darlehen und Ratenzahlungen. Grid berechnet automatisch:

  • Monatliche Rate (falls nicht manuell angegeben)
  • Verbleibende Restschuld zum heutigen Datum
  • Gesamtzinskosten über die gesamte Laufzeit
  • Gesamtbetrag (Nettodarlehen + Zinsen)

Kreditraten fließen nicht in die Jahreskosten-Übersicht ein – sie werden separat ausgewiesen, da Tilgung kein laufender Haushaltsaufwand ist.

Recording loans and installments

Under Finances → Credits in the sidebar you record loans and installment payments. Grid automatically calculates:

  • Monthly payment (if not entered manually)
  • Remaining balance as of today
  • Total interest costs over the full term
  • Total amount (net loan + interest)

Loan installments are not included in the annual cost overview – they are listed separately since repayments are not a recurring household expense in the same sense.

Berechnung: Annuitätenformel

Grid verwendet die Standard-Annuitätenformel für Darlehen mit festem Zinssatz:

Monatliche Rate = K × (i × (1+i)^n) / ((1+i)^n − 1)
K = Nettodarlehen · i = Monatszinssatz · n = Laufzeit in Monaten

Wenn kein Zinssatz angegeben ist, zeigt Grid nur die erfassten Daten ohne Zinsberechnung.

Demo-Daten Unter „Demo-Daten laden" auf dem Startbildschirm wird ein Beispielkredit (Renovierungskredit 8.000 € / 36 Monate / 3,9%) mit eingebunden, um das Kredit-Modul direkt ausprobieren zu können.

Calculation: Annuity formula

Grid uses the standard annuity formula for loans with a fixed interest rate:

Monthly payment = K × (i × (1+i)^n) / ((1+i)^n − 1)
K = net loan · i = monthly interest rate · n = term in months

If no interest rate is entered, Grid shows only the recorded data without interest calculation.

Demo data Selecting "Load demo data" on the start screen includes a sample loan (renovation loan €8,000 / 36 months / 3.9%) so you can try the credit module immediately.

FAQ / Kontakt

Standardmäßig nein – alle Daten bleiben lokal auf deinem Gerät. Optional kannst du iCloud Drive aktivieren (Einstellungen → Speicherort): dann liegen deine Daten in deiner persönlichen Apple-iCloud. Kein Grid-Server, kein Drittanbieter – nur deine eigene iCloud-ID. By default, no – all data stays locally on your device. Optionally you can enable iCloud Drive (Settings → Storage Location): your data then lives in your personal Apple iCloud. No Grid server, no third party – just your own Apple ID.
Ja – mit iCloud Sync. Aktiviere iCloud Drive unter Einstellungen → Speicherort. Mac und iPad teilen dann automatisch dieselben Daten.
